I am a young trainer that is just starting out training dogs professionally. I have two dogs that I own personally and have trained my self. I have a chocolate lab that has his HRCH title. I also have a Fox Red lab that has three Finished passes ands just needs one more to get her HRCH before 15 months old. I put alot of time and effort in to the dogs that I train and take a lot of pride in work. I know that all dogs are different, just like people. I can change up and dial in a program that will help your hunting buddy become all he can be. I quickly determine each dog's strengths and weaknesses, and in training will challenge and polish the strengths while using clear cut concepts in order to bring the weak points up to standard. During our training process all of the dogs are trained to swim through decoys. They are trained on boats, platforms, pit blinds and any other situation the client would like the dog to be familiar with. We train on many different terrain from rolling hills to narrow channels in the toughest swamps possible. It is essential for your retriever to be trained in these different terrain because these are common scenarios while hunting or competing in a hunt test. Your retriever will be familiar with every scenario thinkable to man.
Gun Dog: This program is geared towards the person who just wants a basic hunting dog. The dogs are taught to: sit, stay, heal, and come. They are introduced to bird and duck feathers, along with decoys and gunfire. The dogs also will be introduced to different types of terrain as well as single and easy double marks. The dogs are shown and become familiar with hunting blinds, stands and boats. We also collar condition all of the dogs here. After this stage your dog will be fully capable of going in to the woods and retrieving birds for you.
Puppy Head Start: This program is designed to help those who do not have the time to lay down the essential ground work that every puppy should learn. We believe that it is never too soon to begin training, the sooner the better. Puppies are like sponges when they are young and can absorb everything they are taught. We take dogs in at 3 months and it usually takes anywhere from two to four weeks to teach the basic commands such as sit, stay, here, and heal.
These are the programs a glance that we offer. Each stage gets more and more advanced as the dogs begin to mature. This is just a general over view of what we do at each stage.
Basic Retriever: This program is geared towards laying the ground work to becoming a champion. This is when the dogs are introduced to the more difficult concepts. All obedience work is done at this point. The dogs are taught to: sit, stay, heal, and come. They are introduced to bird and duck feathers, along with decoys and gunfire. The dogs also will be introduced to different types of terrain as well as single and easy double marks. The dogs will be shown and become familiar with hunting blinds, stands and boats. We also collar condition each retriever at this stage. This stage usually takes a dog 1 to 2 months to complete. After completing this stage your retriever will no longer be gun shy, have total obedience training, and able to mark both single and double marks.
Intermediate Retriever: In addition to the basic retriever, at this stage we begin the force fetching. After this is completed we begin basic handling. We also begin running many different marking drills which help our dogs grow and gain all of the confidence they need to become a champion. The dogs will also begin lining drills which will help on long demanding blinds. The dogs are taught to honor other dogs. We introduce diversions at this stage. This stage takes approximately 2 to 3 months of training. After completing this stage your retriever will be able to deliver to hand run seasoned leveled blinds, mark difficult doubles and easy triples, and honor another dog.
Finished Retriever: The dogs are taught to mark long, challenging triple marks, angle back hand signals, and run long, intense, complex blinds. The retrievers will also be taught to quarter in front for any type of upland hunting you may want to do. After completing this stage there is no hunting situation your retriever will not be familiar with. We guaranty that you will be completely satisfied after we are finished training your hunting companion.
Tune-ups: We know that not every one can train everyday and keep their hunting partner up to par. We are more than willing to refresh your hunting retriever's mind at any time.
Hunt Tests: I run all UKC hunt test with in a reasonable distance of Louisiana. I have tilted client dogs at ever level except the Grand. I encourage ever one to get out and go see a test and participate as it is a lot of fun for you as well as your dog.
